The College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas held a scientific workshop entitled: “The Data Journey in the Oil and Gas Industry” this morning, Sunday, April 5, 2026. The workshop was presented by four students from the Department of Oil Project Management:
Hassan Hussein Shatei
Aliya Abdul Wahid Ma’la
Lulwa Abdul Salam Ibrahim
Abdul Rahman Khalid Abdul Karim
The workshop was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Ayat Raad Abdul Jabbar, and attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sami Obaid Mohammed Al-Tamimi, the Administrative Assistant, Ms. Mays Ali Abdul Jabbar (representing GAC), as well as heads of academic departments, faculty members, and students.
This workshop explores the evolution of data from its early algorithmic origins to its pivotal role in the modern oil and gas sector. It focuses on how data is organized and structured using ERP and EDMS systems, and then transformed into analytical insights that support decision-making using Power BI. The workshop also includes a case study based on geo-analytics, where oil field performance is displayed through interactive maps that allow for in-depth analysis of efficiency indicators and operational downtime. This is complemented by the analysis of quarterly financial and human resources data. The aim is to provide a comprehensive and integrated picture demonstrating how structured data contributes to supporting strategic decisions and enhancing performance efficiency in the oil and gas industry.
The Dean of the College commented on the importance of data, which he termed "economic data," and commended the faculty members supervising this academic work, particularly the students who delivered the workshop with high proficiency.
