The College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Organizes its 1st International Scientific Conference on Developments in the Oil and Gas Industry

Under the auspices of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the supervision of the President of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Mohammed Heleil Hafez Al-Kaabi, with the diligent follow-up of the Dean of the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Sami Obeid Mohammed Al-Tamimi, the college held its First International Scientific Conference on February 11-12, 2026.

The conference was held under the theme: "Developments in the Oil and Gas Industry and Their Impact on Sustainable Development in Iraq," featuring participation from researchers representing various local and international universities.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

The inaugural day commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran, the National Anthem, and a moment of silence for the martyrs of Iraq. Key highlights included:

President’s Address: Dr. Mohammed Heleil Al-Kaabi emphasized the conference's role in producing high-quality recommendations to serve the oil sector. He stressed that the core objective is to enhance human efficiency and integrate academic research with the professional labor market to solve industrial challenges through rigorous applied research.

 Dean’s Vision: Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi, Dean and Chair of the Scientific Committee, provided a comprehensive overview of the conference statistics. He noted that 57 research papers were accepted for discussion across six sessions, covering fields such as Oil Economics, Oil Management, Finance, Accounting, and the role of Artificial Intelligence in supporting the energy sector.

Documentary Screening: A documentary produced by the University’s Government Media and Communications Department was showcased, highlighting the college's achievements and infrastructure.

Panel Discussion: "Oil & Gas Industry Between Environmental Challenges and Developmental Responsibility"

A high-level panel discussion was held featuring prominent experts:

  Dr. Qais Anees Al-Uqabi (Market Research & Strategic Planning / SOMO)

  Dr. Shuker Mahmoud Al-Amiri (Finance Committee, Basra Provincial Council)

  Dr. Ahmed Saddam (Basra and Arab Gulf Studies Center)

  Moderator: Dr. Adnan Hadi Ja’az (Head of Oil and Gas Economics Dept)

Recognition and Technical Sessions

The Dean, Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi, presented commemorative shields to the speakers and honored the supporting partners, including Shatt al-Arab University, Al-Hadara University, Warith Al-Anbiya University, Iraqi College of Science, TAM Engineering Co., Jawharat Al-Husam Co., and the Oil Training Institute.

The first day concluded with a series of technical sessions:

  First Session: Chaired by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Rashid, focusing on four key papers.

  Evening Sessions: Five concurrent sessions were held to discuss the remaining research papers within the Economic, Administrative, Accounting, Financial, and Technical tracks.
