Academic Faculty Member Earns Highest Honors

Maitham Abdul-Hamid, a faculty member at the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, has been awarded a PhD in Oil and Gas Economics from Corvinus University in Hungary. He graduated with the highest distinction, Summa Cum Laude, achieving a perfect score of 100%.

The doctoral study was distinguished by the publication of ten research papers in international scientific journals indexed within the Scopus database, while others were featured in the proceedings of major international conferences. Notably, one of these research papers was cited in a U.S. court during a legal case involving American shale oil.

Scope of Research

The dissertation focused on modeling the dynamics of global oil markets and their impacts on oil-exporting countries, with a specific emphasis on Iraq. The research utilized three distinct models based on 18 transmission mechanisms. It provided an in-depth analysis of:

1- Global oil market strategies and their role in the global energy mix.

 2-The influence of international organizations and blocs in shaping market dynamics.

3- Future implications and the geopolitical challenges facing the industry.

The study concluded with a set of scientific recommendations supported by mathematical equations that illustrate strategic mechanisms for responding to global oil market fluctuations.

The Defense and Results

During the defense, the examination committee highlighted that the dissertation introduced seven new scientific findings. Due to the researcher’s exceptional ability to address the committee's inquiries effectively, they recommended awarding him the PhD with Summa Cum Laude honors and a grade of 100%.
