Head of Oil and Gas Economics Department Participates in International Scientific Conference Discussing Sustainable Economy

Date: 29 May, 2025

Dr. Adnan Hadi Jaaz Al-Shatb Al-Shammari, Head of Oil and Gas Economics Department at the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, participated in the activities of the Third International Scientific Conference organized by the College of Administration and Economics at Warith Al-Anbiya University in Karbala. This year's conference was held under the slogan "Administrative and Economic Sciences: An Introduction to a Sustainable Iraqi Economy." Jaaz participated in the conference with a scientific research paper entitled "Oil Price Fluctuations and Their Impact on Financing Higher Education in Iraq - Challenges and Solutions." Through his research, he explained that higher education is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and that Iraq relies on oil revenues to finance public universities (more than 95% of the budget) and that oil fluctuations cause imbalances in funding, which affects the quality of education and keeping pace with global developments. The researcher presented proposed solutions, including a university student funding fund, student funding through loans repaid after employment (20% of the salary), and funding from ministries according to their needs (for example, the Ministry of Oil funds students from the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas). The conference was attended by a distinguished group of Iraqi university professors specializing in management and economics, along with a number of researchers and representatives of government institutions from both inside and outside Iraq. The aim was to exchange expertise and enhance scientific insights into building a solid and sustainable national economy.
