College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Participated in Activities of Second Gas Industry Conference under the Theme "Natural Gas: A Force to Enhance Iraq's Energy," Organized by Basra Gas Company.

Date: 16 April, 2025

College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas participated in the activities of the Second Gas Industry Conference under the theme "Natural Gas: A Force to Enhance Iraq's Energy." The conference was organized by Basra Gas Company under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, His Excellency the Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul-Ghani, in cooperation with Oil Research and Development Center.

The Head of Department of Oil and Gas Economics at College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, Dr. Adnan Hadi Jaaz, participated in the conference, which was attended by numerous official figures, energy and sustainable gas experts, a number of representatives of international companies, prominent figures from various oil and gas-producing countries, and a wide range of researchers and academics in the field of oil and gas industry.

The conference was held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Basra. The conference witnessed extensive discussions by participants, most notably the latest methods, innovations, and technologies that seek to enhance, develop, and make natural gas a primary source of clean energy, a stepping stone toward sustainable future energy.

The discussions also focused on strengthening Iraq's energy capacity in gas production, transforming Basra gas and other gas sources into more sustainable and cleaner energy, and moving away from polluting sources and their negative effects.

Dr. Adnan Hadi Jaaz, Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Economics at College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, emphasized during his moderation of a dialogue session with prominent figures from various countries specializing in the oil and gas sector and participating in the opening of that conference that natural gas represents an important link in the transition from emitted gas to a transitional phase that reduces the high carbon emissions in the atmosphere, which cause serious diseases.

The phase was characterized by a decrease in those emissions, making it a strategic choice for countries seeking to achieve a balance between economic growth, increasing the efficiency of gas-fired energy, protecting the environment from those dangerous emissions accompanied by harmful substances, and investing the flared gas into natural gas that could be used in various fields in the future.

The conference also addressed the challenges facing the gas industry and highlighted the need for modern, advanced infrastructure and technologies to ensure the success of that vital sector and accelerate development.

Among the most significant challenges facing the gas industry were fluctuations in global prices, which fluctuate between high and low, environmental pressures, and other factors. the conference represents an important and advanced step in consolidating and promoting the role of natural gas in Iraq, transforming it into a clean energy mix. Natural gas was the most important energy source in the world, contributing to building a more sustainable and prosperous future for the country and advancing a sustainable environmental reality.
