Women's Affairs Unit, in cooperation with Basra Intelligence Directorate, organized a scientific symposium entitled "Electronic Blackmail: Its Dangers and Prevention". On Monday 9/12/2024, under the patronage of the President of Basra University for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Muhammad Al-Kaabi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi.
The symposium addressed the importance and objectives of the national awareness campaign on the dangers of cybercrimes and blackmail, as that campaign aimed to spread awareness about the dangers of cybercrimes and electronic blackmail and ways to combat them, in addition to educating society about the preventive measures that must be taken to protect themselves from those crimes.
The symposium was attended by a number of speakers who gave awareness lectures in that regard, including: Colonel Abdul Rasoul Abdul Abbas, Colonel Alaa Dahi and Mr. Jabbar Kazem Al-Helou. The speakers addressed several important topics during the symposium, including: (Definition of electronic blackmail and its dangers, methods used by blackmailers to trap their victims, legal procedures to be taken in the event of exposure to electronic blackmail, the role of the family and society in preventing electronic blackmail).
During the symposium, many real cases of electronic blackmail were discussed, and the necessary advice and guidance were provided to the participants on how to protect themselves from falling victim to the crimes. At the end of the symposium, the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas presented symbolic commemorative shields to the lecturers, and the head of Women's Affairs Unit at the College, Assistant Lecturer Rasul Issam, praised the efforts of all participants.
