Department of Oil and Gas Management and Marketing, in cooperation with Continuing Education Unit at College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, organized a scientific workshop entitled (Russian Gas Pipeline Network and its Political, Environmental and Economic Challenges). The workshop was presented by Lecturer Udai Hussein Ali, and was attended by morning studies students in the department, Ahmed Adel Salem and Jihan Hani Latif, under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi, and in the presence of Administrative Assistant Dr. Haider Ali, and the heads of the scientific departments, their rapporteurs and the distinguished lecturers.
Mr. Udai presented a detailed explanation of the gas pipeline network and the future challenges it may face, and what were the most prominent possible scenarios for dealing with gas investments in the world. The student Ahmed Adel explained in his presentation the importance of the Russian gas pipeline network and the political, environmental and geological challenges that accompany it until it reaches the outlet.
He reviewed the capabilities of the Russian Gazprom Company in how to search for solutions to those challenges. The lecture was unique in the Yamal gas pipeline, which was 4107 km long, and the Caucasus (Azerbaijani) gas pipeline, which is 3500 km long, with its three sections. In turn, the student Jihan Hani explained the strength and durability of those pipelines in terms of the technology used, the diameters of those pipelines, their capacities, the annual production volume of each pipeline, and the plans of the International Energy Agency to reduce dependence on Russian gas to prevent Russia from controlling that resource, which it sometimes uses for political purposes, with a detailed statement regarding the European countries dealings with Russian gas.
The lecture showed the political effects on the process of transporting and exporting gas, especially in light of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its reflection on the reality of the European and Arab region as a whole. The workshop witnessed interventions from lecturers and students that enriched the topic with scientific and economic additions.
