College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Organizes the scientific conference Titled (The Drug Phenomenon: Prevention and Control Mechanisms)

College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas at Basra University for Oil and Gas organized the scientific conference entitled (The Drug Phenomenon: Prevention and Control Mechanisms) and within the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to combat negative phenomena in society and under the slogan (With science and knowledge we fight negative phenomena and reduce them). The conference activities began on Tuesday, the fifth of March, in the central conference hall at the university, in partnership with the Basra Health Department and Basra Police Directorate. The assistant lecturer, Fatima Hadi opened the conference by reciting verses from the Holy Qur’an presented by the university employee (Muhammad Baqir), then listening to the national anthem and reading Surat Al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq. The Dean of College, Professor Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi, presented the opening speech of the conference in which he thanked the scientific and preparatory committees and praised the efforts of the participants in research papers during the conference, stressing that the university and its formations are continuing the path of awareness against all negative phenomena that harm Iraqi society and its inherent values, indicating that the conference research was divided into the axes of the psychological and counseling aspects and the legal and security axes. The activities of the first morning session began, which was moderated by the assistant lecturer, Russell Essam , during which three research papers were presented. The first was by Dr. Amal Mahdi from College of Education for Girls, and it was entitled “The Psychological and Educational Effects of Drugs.” Then it was the turn of Colonel Ali Mohsen Hamid from Basra Narcotics Directorate, who spoke in his research paper about the realistic aspects of drugs, how to report cases of abuse and trade, and how to identify people who are abusers through some signs. He also revealed the most important means of drug spread and how to limit them through the combined efforts of all institutions of Iraqi society. After that, the Brigadier of Law, Ali Jihad Al-Asadi, presented from the Second Police College (Basra Police Directorate), he presented his research paper on the security and awareness aspects of reducing the spread of the drug phenomenon. In the second evening session of the conference, Dr. Fatima Nasser Al-Mousawi from Basra Health Department participated with a research paper entitled “Misuse of Narcotic Substances and Dependence,” and then a research paper. By the Director of the Human Development Unit at the University of Basra, Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Muzani, and it was entitled “The Role of Sanitariums in Treating Addiction Using Non-Pharmaceutical Methods.” The second session concluded with a research paper in the economic axis and was entitled “The Impact of Drugs on Economic Development.” The conference activities concluded with a reading of the recommendations, which were read by the lecturer Haider Sadiq, which included: (holding continuous awareness seminars for students and youth on the importance of combating the phenomenon, promoting extracurricular activities and keeping young people busy with activities and talents that develop their abilities and energies, harnessing educational efforts starting with the family and reaching educational institutions, the necessity of the media taking its important awareness role in combating that phenomenon, and activating the psychological and social clinic to help young people overcome their problems and crises and not be drawn into deviation from the path of authentic societal values, and activating the full deterrent legal provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017). At the conclusion of the conference, the researchers were honored with the college shield and certificates of appreciation in appreciation of their contribution.
