College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Organizes a Symposium on (the Phenomenon of Harassment and its Social Effects)

Women’s Empowerment Unit at College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas organized a specialized symposium entitled (The phenomenon of harassment and its social effects), on Wednesday the twenty-eighth, in the conference hall, under the patronage of the President of Basra University for Oil and Gas, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College. The symposium was moderated by the head of Women’s Empowerment Unit at the college, Assistant Lecturer Russel Essam. The symposium included the legal axis, lectured by lawyer Adnan Al-Samer, and the social and security axis, lectured by the community police officer, Lieutenant Colonel Muntadhar K. Nimah. Al-Samer confirmed during his research paper on the legal aspects that protect the harasser, emphasizing the legal articles that punish the harasser and the necessity of reporting that phenomenon, while Lieutenant Colonel Montazer stressed that we sometimes receive a number of complaints in that regard, and in turn they provide psychological support to the victim and hold the harassing party accountable, even if they receive complaints in an inappropriate manner. Officially, they intervene to preserve the lives of the victims while taking pledges from the harasser. If the victim wishes to file a lawsuit, the harasser would be held accountable and punished according to the legal contexts, adding that the phenomenon harms the reputation and structure of Iraqi society that was conservative and cohesive to the authentic Islamic and Arab identity. The awareness role also falls on the Johar Family Foundation. Society to educate their children and youth about the seriousness of that phenomenon. At the conclusion of the symposium, researchers who contributed to enriching the topic of the symposium with opinions and ideas were honored.
