College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Organizes a Scientific Symposium on (drugs, the impact on society, and ways to combat them)

Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit and Women’s Empowerment Unit at College of Industrial Management organized a scientific symposium entitled (Drugs and their impact on society and ways to combat them), on Tuesday, the twenty-eighth of November, in the conference hall and under the patronage of the President of Basra University for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Muhammad Al-Kaabi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi. The symposium was presented by Assistant Lecturer Israa Faleh, and moderated by Assistant Lecturer Russel Issam. The specialist doctor in family medicine, Sabreen Makki, lectured on the health and medical aspect of drug abuse. The harms of drugs and how to treat them, and the importance of awareness among young people of the dangers of drugs and their harm to individual and society, stressing the importance of taking steps characterized by their awareness aspects to save Iraqi family from the danger and negative phenomenon. The second aspect was devoted to the security and legal of the risks posed by the phenomenon of drug abuse or sale. That aspect was presented by the director of  the Department of Trainers’ Preparation at the Second Police College, Colonel Fouad Al-Asadi, who stressed the legal responsibility for that phenomenon and the role of the security services in combating it, indicating the efforts of the concerned departments to work diligently to reduce that phenomenon and to avoid the involvement of some young people in engaging in the trade of such toxic materials that destroy the fabric of society. Explaining the importance of the preventive and security aspect to limit the spread of the dangerous epidemic on society, he stressed the presence of deterrent legal articles in Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969 or in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 that lead to the death penalty against drug smugglers and traffickers. In conclusion, The lecturers was honored in the scientific symposium enriched the audience with information, and the symposium witnessed a remarkable presence of the media to cover the symposium topics and conduct interviews with the teachers and contributors to the symposium.
