College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, in Cooperation with Second Police College, Organizes a Symposium on (Causes and Treatments for Electronic Extortion Crimes)

Educational Guidance and Psychological Guidance Unit at College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas/Basra University for Oil and Gas, in cooperation with Second Police College/Ministry of Interior, organized an awareness seminar entitled (Causes and Treatments for Electronic Extortion Crimes) on Wednesday, the fifteenth of November, under the sponsorship and presence of the President of University of Basra for Oil and Gas, Professor Dr. Muhammad Al-Kaabi, under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sami Al-Tamimi, and the Director of the Trainers Preparation Department at the Second Police College, Colonel Fouad  Al-Asadi. He stressed that it was one of the most dangerous crimes at the present time in light of the dominance of technology and the wrong use of its techniques. Al-Asadi mentioned the reasons for electronic blackmail, including the lack of cultural awareness of using electronic applications, the negligence of everyone in caring for young people and providing suitable climates for them, and the spread of manifestations of ignorance, unemployment, poverty, and information illiteracy. Weak community and media awareness and the absence of the role of the family and schools in raising awareness of those dangers. Then the lecturer reviewed the most prominent manifestations and methods of electronic blackmail, including sending pictures or federated links, fake friendships, and messages from unknown people, whether on the phone or through social networking, receiving calls from international numbers, or attempting to hack accounts, cameras, or the exchange of personal information and photos. He also explained the work of  Electronic Crime Department and the most prominent penalties that the blackmailer faces from a legal standpoint, including the possibility of imprisoning the blackmailer for an undesirable period of seven years and other deterrent penalties. Al-Asadi stressed to the students the need to preserve their privacy on their phones and secure their accounts. Personality and not sharing any information about them with strangers. At the end of the symposium, the university appreciated the efforts of Mr. Colonel for the awareness symposium with a letter of thanks and appreciation from the president of the university, as well as a certificate of appreciation from the dean of the college, and a shield of excellence and praise from the college for his important role in serving the students in that regard.
