Date: 07 October, 2023

Department of Petroleum Project Management at the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas organized a scientific symposium on the topic (Green Human Resources Management) on Tuesday, the seventh of November, in the conference hall, under the patronage of the President of Basra University for Oil and Gas, under the supervision of the Dean of the College, and the head of the Petroleum Project Management Department, Assistant Lecturer Rafid Kh. Radhi, in addition to the student Qanout H. Driul and the student Alia Abdel-Ahad. The symposium included a review of the concept of green human resources, which is a sustainable approach to human resources management by focusing on social and environmental impact. Human resources practices involve integrating sustainability principles into all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, training, employee engagement, and performance evaluation, as well as practices that encourage green initiatives by increasing employee awareness and commitment to sustainable environmental issues. Researchers stated during the symposium that the goal of green human resources was creating a work environment that was not only sustainable but also enhances the well-being of employees and the communities in which they work by adopting global human resources practices so companies could reduce their environmental impact, improve their social responsibility and enhance their reputation as a sustainable company and the possibility of undertaking environmentally friendly initiatives through a series of activities, including writing and electronic filing which reduces the use of paper and thus preserves trees in nature, and participates in transporting its employees collectively using its own means of transportation, which reduces the employees use of their cars and thus reduces energy use and environmental pollution. It is also possible to hold electronic meetings and conferences, participate and train via Internet, and flexible working hours. All of that reduces travel rates, congestion, pollution, and the accompanying waste of resources. Companies could enhance sustainability through training and development by incorporating sustainability principles into employee training programs. The faculty and student attendees provided some comments and opinions at the conclusion of the symposium that enhance the content of the topic.
