Date: 31 October, 2023

Department of Oil and Gas Management and Marketing at the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas organized a scientific symposium on the topic “Using the Geographic Information System (GIS) and its applications in the industry and management of the oil and gas sector”. On Tuesday the thirty-first of October, in the conference hall and under the patronage of the President of Basra University for Oil and Gas and under the supervision of the Dean of the College. The assistant lecturer, Salwa H. Al-Asadi, lectured at the symposium. She pointed out that the geographical information system was used in the fields of mining, oil and gas to analyze and plan lands and natural areas and explore for natural resources, management of geological, geophysical and geochemical data and management of operations and projects working in those fields. She said that geographic information systems could be used to locate wells, evaluate geological environment, determine suitable areas for exploration and production, analyze geological data to determine production expectations, estimate the size of natural resources, manage operational processes and potential environmental risks, and the use also helps. Geographic information systems in the fields of mining, oil and gas improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce costs and environmental risks. The symposium witnessed interventions and opinions from specialists and academics who attended the symposium activities.
