Basrah University of Oil and Gas organizes a seminar on gas emissions and their impact on the climatic characteristics of Basra Governorate

Date: 26 June, 2023

The Continuing Education Division, in cooperation with the College of Industrial Management of Oil and Gas, organized a scientific symposium entitled (Gas emissions and their impact on the climatic characteristics of Basra Governorate) under the auspices of the President of the University of Basra for Oil and Gas, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hillel Hafez Al-Kaabi, and lectured by the assistant teacher Haider Sadiq Kazim, on Monday morning, the twenty-sixth and at the conference hall, and the symposium touched on the impact of gas emissions from oil fields on the climatic characteristics of Basra Governorate and focused on the role of carbon dioxide in climate change,  As this gas contributes about 73 percent of global warming, the concentration of this gas during the summer reached 441.9 parts per million and 415.2 during the winter, with a difference of 191.9, 165.2 respectively from the environmental limit, and the researcher indicated that these data reflected a negative impact on the rise in maximum and minimum temperatures, low relative humidity and increased wind speed, as well as the frequency of the number of dust days during the year, the lecturer added:  We relied on the data of the General Authority for Meteorology for the period from 1940 to 2020, as the change in the characteristics of the climate of Basra Governorate led to the spread of desertification manifestations, as well as the negative impact on human comfort and health, and the symposium came out with a set of recommendations, including maintaining the safety of natural and cultivated vegetation cover, which would help equalize the remaining emissions by absorbing carbon and the importance of increasing the efficiency of clean energy use, especially relying on solar energy because Basra Governorate It receives large amounts of solar radiation. The conclusion of the seminar was witnessed by Madakh
