University of Basra for Oil and Gas organized an introductory symposium entitled (Ways and Mechanisms to Enter International Rankings), on Sunday, the eighteenth of June, in the conference hall at the university, and the official of International University Rankings Unit at University of Basra, with the presence of the President of Basra University for Oil and Gas, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Kaabi. The symposium was moderated by the Dean, Dr. Sami Al-Saadi. The lecturer spoke about the importance of entering the classifications, the most important of them, and the mechanisms used in that, in order to attract larger numbers of students and measure the ability of the departments in the university, finding fault points and addressing them, and establishing a culture of quality across all levels of university joints, and stressed the necessity to enter into the classifications, providing quality education, providing a sober learning environment, presenting initiatives in community service and relying on concepts of sustainability in all university joints, as well as a high percentage of holders of scientific titles , and dissemination of useful applied research, as well as measuring the volume of international students studying at the university, especially we have begun to activate the (study in Iraq) initiative, which is an opportunity to increase the number of foreign and Arab students in our universities, as well as the importance of international cooperation in the field of publishing joint research and the visiting professor. Abdul Saada explained the mechanisms and ways entering the rankings (Shanghai, Times, QS, and others), pointing to the importance of activating sustainability initiatives at the university, using clean energy, and taking care of the university’s website in more than one language, with a focus on publishing meaningful scientific content on the site. Al-Kaabi stressed during his intervention that the symposium came to believe in the importance of entering the university in the coming period in international rankings, which raises the name of our country and our university in various classifications, in implementation of what came within the government ministerial program, one of the most important goals of which is to enter Iraqi universities in international rankings.
