The College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Organizes a Scientific Symposium on Directional Drilling for Non-engineers

Date: 25 November, 2021

The Department of Petroleum Projects Management at the College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas organized a symposium on directional drilling for non-engineers, with the participation of researchers, specialists and students, on the twenty-fifth of November. The assistant lecturer Najah Reda lectured in the Symposium. The lecturer mentioned that the symposium came from the idea of simplifying engineering sciences adopted by Basra University for Oil and Gas to create a state of integration between its engineering and administrative colleges and achieve the basic requirements of the university. The symposium dealt with directional drilling and horizontal drilling, which is a special case of directional drilling, by simplifying the basic concepts adopted in the drilling process. Moreover, comparing them with the old traditional methods with modern methods in the field of unconventional drilling engineering. With an indication of the benefits of each method and future directions in the field of engineering drilling in the face of international crises such as the Covid-19 crisis and its reflection on the reality of oil industry. The reasons for using directional and horizontal drilling were also addressed, with an explanation of the methods and equipment used, and preceded by an introductory summary of the most important terms used in this field. In the oil sector, starting with exploration, drilling and production. The end of the symposium witnessed discussions and opinions from the attendees.
