The Council of College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas Attends Scientific Symposium Organized by University of Basra on (Ilisu Dam: Its Economic and Environmental Effects on Iraq and the Position of International Law on it)

On 29th June, the Council of College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, headed by the Dean of the College, Dr. (Sami Hashem Al-Saadi), participated in a scientific symposium organized by the Department of Economics at College of Administration and Economics at University of Basra on the topic (Ilisu Dam: Its Economic Effects and Environment in Iraq and the position of international law on it) with the participation of researchers and specialists.

The symposium included several axes in which Prof. Sami Obaid Al-Tamimi spoke about the Ilisu Dam and its economic and environmental effects in Iraq. Prof. Dr. (Shukri Al-Hassan) pointed out the potential environmental impact of Turkey’s dams on Iraq, and Prof. Sajid Ahmad Al-Rikabi from the Faculty of Law focused on Iraq’s legal rights as a state riparian on an international river (Tigris). The symposium also witnessed an intervention by the Dean of College of Industrial Management for Oil and Gas, Dr. Sami Al-Saadi, on the subject and its economic damage on the country.

The symposium aimed at examining the economic effects of Ilisu Dam in Iraq and clarifying Iraq's water rights as a riparian state on the Tigris River. The symposium recommended setting appropriate water plans and policies to confront the water crisis in Iraq, using diplomacy to solve water problem with Turkey, and applying international law to guarantee Iraq's water rights.
